From Isolation to Celebration!
Stanley Grange, Samlesbury celebrates National Lottery Funding for return to socialising
For immediate release: Monday 6th September 2021
Adults with learning disabilities living near Preston are looking forward to the start of a new season of days out and a better place for socialising together again, thanks to a generous grant from the National Lottery. Stanley Grange Community Association on Roach Road, Samlesbury is celebrating after being awarded £10,000 from the National Lottery. The charity which works with support provider, Future Directions will use the cash to fund 12 months running costs of a mini-bus. It will also pay for a makeover of the community hall on site which includes a communal lounge with a large screen, disco facilities and snooker table and a space for regular arts and crafts activities, community events and parties.
Stanley Grange Community Association has been running since 2015 when families of the residents came together to campaign and fundraise to save the site from closure. 42 residents with a range of learning disabilities and complex needs live in are supported on site to live independent, active lives by the Future Directions team which includes a full-time Activities Coordinator also funded by the National Lottery.
Operations and Projects Manager, Harriet Roberts explains: ‘I think most people found lockdown challenging but for the adults with learning disabilities we support and their families it was particularly difficult for our residents and their loved ones not to be able to meet together or socialize outside their own house bubbles. As restrictions lift, we are looking forward to the redecoration of our community hall facility, running more events and activities and slowly welcoming back visitors, families and friends in a Covid-safe way. It will also enable the team to enjoy more days out to the wonderful range of visitor attractions, leisure and hospitality facilities on our doorstep using the Stanley Grange mini-bus.’
